Presidents Patch – July 2023

PRESIDENT’S PATCH JULY

The June Guild meeting was a great day with lots of warming soups, and Jo from “These Clever
Hands” as a speaker – with a very colourful shop. Jo had an interesting story to tell about why and
how she started her business, and many of us succumbed to the temptation of her lovely fabrics.

PROGRAM FOR 2024
Now is the time Kay starts thinking about booking speakers and workshops for next year, but she
would love some input.

CHALLENGE TO ALL MEMBERS: Send a suggestion of one speaker and one workshop for
next year (if you have more ideas – great!) to the notyq commitee email.
Make it someone we haven’t had in the last 2 years, and someone maybe a bit different, but still
along the quilting/crafting genre, and lets make next year another really varied and interesting year.

AGM: As I have mentioned before, at the AGM in October 2 members of the committee will be
retiring. This still leaves most of the committee, and they are a very strong committee, and that is
always the best time to join. So please consider it!

The Iris and the DragonFlies: although this sounds like the start to a children’s story, it isn’t.
For those of you who don’t know, the beautiful framed quilts of the Irises (which hung above the
piano) and the dragonflies (which hung above the organ) were made by Lily and were bequeathed to
NOTYQ when she died.
Consequently the loss of these quilts has been very upsetting, apart from the fact that they should
never have been taken without permission.
All users of the hall have been made aware of the situation, as have many community groups in
Nillumbik.
If anyone knows anything about their removal or their current location can they please let one of the
committee members know?

There are still spaces at retreat if anyone wishes to put their name down.

Enjoy the winter season by staying warm and enjoying sewing and quilting. Before too long it will be
Spring and we will all come out of our winter hideaways and share what we have been doing.

Stay safe and warm
Margaret
